Obituary of Emma Jean Sweaney

Emma “Jean” Sweaney, 95, left to be with our Lord Aug 23, 2018.  She was born at home in Nyssa, Oregon on Jan 27, 1923 to Tom and Merle Johnson.   Growing up on farms outside of Nyssa, she had parents that instilled great values into her and her sister Anne.  Mom graduated from Nyssa Union High School and was chosen Girls League President her senior year as well as a Duchess of the Payette Apple Blossom Festival.  She married Pat Sweaney in 1942, and soon became some of the first settlers of the Purple Sage area north of Caldwell in the late 1940s, as irrigation came to the new land.  They both said that those years were best of their lives.

Mom was a great homemaker for our family of six and instilled those fabulous values along with a fantastic Christian foundation.  She loved the Lord!   After her kids were raised she worked at the JR Simplot Co for several years.  Mom and dad retired early and spent summers in Donnelly, Idaho and went south in the winters.  After many years of fifth-wheeling they settled into Harrison Hills in Boise and she later moved to Hazel Park and Prestige Autumn Winds in Caldwell.

Mom was a very social person and full of energy and wit until the end.  She cared deeply for her family, her First Southern Baptist Church, co-tenants, caregivers and was loved by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Pat and her daughter Patsy (Bill Page).  She is survived by her older sister Anne Graham of Yakima, Washington; sons Rick (Geri), Doug (Judy), Bill (Elaine) and a very large extended family.

A Canyon Hill graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 1:00pm followed by a memorial service at 2:30pm at the First Southern Baptist Church 912 W. Linden St. Caldwell, ID 83605.
