Obituary of Roy Starkovich

Roy “Nick” Starkovich, 90, passed away peacefully at Golden Years Assisted Living on November 18, 2020.

Roy was born October 11, 1930 in Boise, Idaho, to Nicholas and Katherine Starkovich. He grew up in Boise, and in 1948, he joined the Navy. Roy served as a Quartermaster on an L.S.T. He returned to Boise after his discharge and later graduated from B.J.C. He married June Thompson in 1958, and they had one son, Eric Starkovich. For the next few years, he worked as a carpenter and laborer to support his family. Roy was a talented artist and liked to sketch on wood scraps during his work breaks. He was working at the Old Orchard Missile Site outside Boise when someone in management took notice of his drawings and offered him a job in California. So he loaded up this family and off they went to build rockets. A short time later, he went to work for Morton-Thiokol in Ogden, Utah and continued to work there for the next 26 years. Roy and June were divorced in 1966. He married Merial Williams in 1973, and they were divorced in 1976.

Roy retired in 1997 and moved back to Idaho where he built a home in Nampa. A few years later, he moved to Caldwell where he later shared his home with his new companion, Dorothy. They traveled a lot. Dorothy passed in 2013 and a few years later, Roy sold his house and moved to the Chateau de Boise in Boise where he had many friends and his special friend, Doty. In August, his health deteriorated and he moved into assisted living where he passed several months later.

Roy was always there for his family and had a special place in his heart for small children in need. The majority of his estate will go to these causes.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; four half-sisters: Rose Harr, Mandy Brosovich, Josephine Covica, and Mary Golse; one sister, Katherine Welch; three half-brothers: Tom and Mike Romich, and Mike Star; and one brother, John Starkovich. Roy is survived by his son, Eric, and many nieces and nephews.
