Obituary of Gerald R. Taylor

Gerald R Taylor, 87, passed away on 12/20/20 at his home in Middleton, ID. Gerald spent the last 3 years of his life living with his daughter, Jackie Blair, so she could help him navigate as dementia slowly took away so many things he loved to do.  He leaves behind his wife, Marcheta (Smith) Taylor; their four children, RaGena (Mike) McSherry, David (Debbie) Taylor, Jackie (Chuck) Blair, and Beverly (Mark) Parry.  He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, many friends, nieces and nephews.

Gerald was born on May 10, 1933 in Mohler, OR.  The son of Sylvester George and Ruby (Etzwiller) Taylor.  He was raised in Newberg, OR and graduated from Newberg High School in 1952.

He married Marcheta on April 23, 1952.  They moved many times during their 68 years of marriage, but always stayed connected with family and friends from wherever they had lived.

Gerald worked many different jobs until he settled into a career with Southern Pacific Railroad.  He worked for 33 years for SPRR until his retirement in 1988.  He was recruited by Morris Knutson as a consultant and continued supervising various projects for a few more years.

When he finally retired, he and Marcheta spent a number of years snowbirding in the Southwest in their motor home.  They also loved to travel and take cruises to exotic locations, many of these adventures were shared with their adult children.  Lots of memories were made.

Gerald was a “jack-of-all-trades” and used his skills helping family and friends with various projects.  He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, hunting and fishing.

There will be no funeral service at this time.  A “Celebration of Life” will be held on August 14, 2021 in Mission Bottom, Oregon.  More details will be sent out as this date draws closer or contact the family for more information.
