Obituary of Nellie Irene Rheuby

Nellie Rheuby, 83, of Caldwell, Idaho passed away at home on Friday, September 17, 2021. Nellie was born September 30, 1937 in Orofino, Idaho to Jesse Slocum Sr. and Grace Henderson Slocum.

She was raised in Orofino where she met the love of her life, Royce Rheuby, in 1954. They were married on April 25, 1955. Nellie worked as a clerk for many years, as she loved people. She worked for JCPenney for nine years, Osco in Elko, Nevada for nine years, and then Shopko for twelve years until she retired in 2005. She loved to bowl on Friday league night; she said “I wasn’t that good, but I loved it.” Nellie loved to bake, pies were her favorite and we all loved them. She loved to garden and can, also. Nellie liked to knit, crochet, and sew, but most of all, she loved her grandchildren and spending time with all of her family.

Nellie is preceded in death by her husband, Royce; her parents; and her brother, Jesse Slocum Jr. She is survived by her three children: Dennis of Hammett, Douglas (Gail) of Mountain Home, and Shirley (Larry) Farnsworth of Caldwell; nine grandchildren: Misty, Christina, Mary, Melissa, Leonard, Michael, Daniel, Eva, and Leslie; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Elsie Calvert, Betty Aiken, and Verna (Steve) Lombard; brothers, Don (Norma) Slocum and Gerald Bainbridge; cousins; and many nieces and nephews.

Nellie had many friends and family who she loved and cared about deeply. We all will miss her loving hugs! We’d like to thank Dr. James Gardner for the many years of love and care he gave our mom, up until her passing. We’d also like to thank everyone who helped us with the loving care for her at her home.

A private family graveside will be at Marsing Homedale Cemetery on Friday, October 1, 2021.
