Obituary of Deborah Marie Holzhey

Deborah ‘Debi’ Marie Johnson Holzhey

Some people come into our lives and change it forever. Debi Holzhey was one of those
people.

Born in 1959, Debi was every bit her own person. She was fiercely independent and selfassured.
She would never accept being told ‘it can’t be done’. Growing up on her
folks’ chicken ranch, she and her best friend Shari could be found always pushing the
envelope.

She loved life no matter how hard it was for her. In 1978 she contracted Guillain-Barré
Syndrome and became mobility challenged. But that didn’t stop her. Once she
completed extensive physical rehabilitation, she made up for time lost and got on with
living her life. She began working at the Exchange Bank Data Processing Center and
became one of the fastest coders though only able to use her middle finger. She
worked her way up to the position of Human Resources manager and officer at the
bank, a job she excelled at.

She met her beloved husband and forever friend, Darin in 1986 and they were married
a year later. They lived a life full of love and supported each other to be their best self.
They moved to Marsing, ID in 1994, bought a piece of land and with a lot of grit, built
their home. Debi started working at the Marsing School District Office as district
secretary in 1994 and served as the district business manager from 1998 until her
retirement in 2018. She was later elected and served on the Marsing School Board until
her death. She loved people, spoke the truth and she knew how to encourage others,
and rarely if ever complained about her physical hardships…she lived with what was
dealt her.

Debi quietly left her loved ones behind and leapt into the arms of Jesus on February 9,
2022. For all who knew her, this would be her first running leap since she was 18 years
old. She was greeted by her beloved parents, Lynn and Rod Johnson, treasured
grandparents Lucille and Oscar Herbert and Helga and Leonard Johnson, her niece
Paige, cousin Jenny and, beloved aunties and uncles.

Debi is survived by her loving husband, Darin, and her brothers Steven (Naomi), Matt
(Lori), her sister Vicky, her stepmother, Carol Johnson, nephews Trey and Luke, nieces
Abigail, Christiana (David), Alex (Anthony), Aima, and Krista, her stepsisters Kathy
(George), and Nikki (David), stepbrother Donald (Jarin), her mother-in-law, Betty
Holzhey, and sister-in-law Noreen (Eric). She leaves behind many dear aunties, uncles,
and cousins, all who were her cheerleaders throughout her life, her sweet Lacey and
her loving pets Freya, Otis, Mugsy and Oreo.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on March 12 at the Marsing High School
Cafeteria, 301 8th Avenue West, Marsing, Idaho. A private interment will be held at the
Homedale-Marsing Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to honor Debi with a
memoriam to the Marsing Disaster Auction, P.O. Box 493, Marsing, ID 83639.

Debi, your memory will live in our hearts forever. You are a beautiful soul that will never
be forgotten. We will see you again…
