Betty Johnson

Obituary of Betty Jean Johnson

Betty Jean Johnson was born in Belgreen, Alabama on January 7, 1937 one of nine children to Robert and Nettie Davis. At an early age her family moved to Mississippi for a short time, and then came to Idaho in 1943 when her dad got a job building internment camps during the war. She went to local school until her family returned to Idaho a couple years later, and she remained in Idaho for the rest of her life.

She met the love of her life, Joe, shortly after arriving back in Idaho. When he returned after serving in the Korean War, they were married on February 6, 1954 in Caldwell, Idaho. Their earthly union lasted for almost 66 years until his passing in 2020. From that union they had three blessed children who loved and adored their parents unmeasurably, and will forever thank them for their love, care, patience, and wisdom. Betty lived in the Treasure Valley residing in Middleton most of the time, and upon her and Joe’s retirements, moved to Nampa.

Betty worked most of her career for the Crookham Seed Company in Caldwell in Caldwell, doing numerous jobs finishing her career as an executive secretary. During her retirement she volunteered with the Caldwell hospital, as well as taking care of her former boss’s wife for a time stricken with dementia. She and Joe loved to travel, taking trips all over the country and watching their kids and grandchildren in sporting activities. She loved her flowers and especially her roses. She loved to cook with her granddaughters, teaching them they could leave the measuring cups and spoons in the drawer and still have it turn out just fine. She was a wonderful cook, a loving and devoted wife and mother, and a friend to all. She loved to talk, finding silence a missed opportunity, and would strike up conversations no matter where she was. A stranger was a friend yet made.

She was called home to be with her heavenly father and Joe on July 24, 2023 at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers J.C., Marcel, Hoyt, and Donnie; three sisters Lavelle, Charlene and Gloria. She is survived by one brother Jerry (Vicky) Davis of Caldwell, her children Mike and Ken of Nampa, and Kathy of Seattle, Washington, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Thanks to all for your love and prayers, with a special thank you to Keystone Hospice for the care of our loving mother.
